1. Explore the American Defenses Marker
Inscription. If you go up this hill, you will see where American soldiers cut countless trees in Secember 1777. Here they feverishly built log and earth fortifications.

Americans dug in to block any British move further south. White posts with blue tops now show how far the American earthworks stretched - nearly two miles! This hill was the high ground.

You will also find the only surviving witness to the 1777 Battles of Saratoga. The Neilson farmhouse stands not far away.
