1. A Gold Star Father Marker
Inscription.
Thirteen folds hold Stars and Stripes
in tribute to a Warrior's life
A father's pride and joy now claimed
by steel and a stone, each bears your name
Thoughts turn to that defining day
"Dad, there's something I have to say
I want to enlist, that's my plan
I hope that you will understand"
You slowly smile to hide your fears
shake hands and hug then fight back tears
"Don't worry Dad, I'll be alright"
but you worried every day and night
The child you raised now gone to war
then the call... "home no more"
The memories of so many years
mingle with happy times and tears
Your child in Heaven, safe from harm
behold the final, fourteenth fold
as the Flag gently rests in a proud father's
folded arms.
