First known bridge built in 1654. Until 1827 the only bridge to Christiania's (i.e., Oslo’s) suburbs east of the Akerselva. Today's bridge from 1942.

Excerpt (in translation): Vaterland's bridge connects Brugata with the districts of Vaterland and Grønland. The bridge is one of the oldest connections across the Akerselva. The first bridge here was built in 1654. Until then, all traffic to the new Christiania (Oslo) from the east and north was directed to the bridge at Kongens Mill, now Grünerbrua. The bridge from 1654 was renewed and fitted with iron railings in 1836, later rebuilt and expanded several times to adapt to the ever-growing city. Until 1827, when Nybrua was completed, this was the only bridge connection between Christiania and the suburbs on the east side of Akerselva; here all the loads of agricultural(Submitted on August 1, 2024.)goods from Romerike and the Uplands passed through to the farms in Brugata and Storgata.Photographed by Andrew Ruppenstein, July 9, 20242.
