attire, while their ladies in their finest regalia sat in the gallery and watched.

The building became too expensive for the Freemasons, and the municipality took over in 1862. The Freemasons remained in the building as tenants until their new building was completed in 1894 in Nedre Vollgate.

Converted to municipal premises with meeting rooms for the city council and chairmanship 1900. The municipality moved out in 1947 when the new Town Hall in Vika could be put into use. The Oslo Freighting Office had offices and canteens here from 1947 until the beginning of the 1980s.

Concerts: Gamle Logen has played a major role in the development of Norway's cultural life. Norwegian artists of both national and international fame have performed here, such as Edvard Grieg, Henrik Ibsen, Ole Bull, Johan Svendsen, Halfdan Kierulf, Henrik Wergeland and Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson. International artists of world renown, such as Louis Armstrong, Fats Waller, Duke Ellington and Josephine Baker, to mention but a few, have also performed at Gamle Logen.

Visible in the preceding picture, there is a statue of noted composer Edvard Grieg by Marit Wiklund to the left of the lodge entrance. At one point Grieg lived within walking distance of the building, and has performed there.
