1. The Best Soldiers in America’s Northern Army Marker
Here in 1777 you would have seen the camp of Colonel Daniel Morgan's Corps. These elite troops covered a road that the British might attack from.
Most soldiers used muskets, not rifles. In August General George Washington had sent 400 frontier riflemen north to help. A new light infantry unit of New Englanders was formed to fight alongside them. Native Americans worked with Morgan's Corps as scouts.
Being "well acquainted with the use of rifles, and with that mode of fighting," these Virginians and Pennsylvanians were expert marksmen.
