Inscription.
Colonel Tadeusz Kościuszko was the "young Polish engineer [who] was skillful enough" to see the defensive possibilities here on Bemus Heights.

Military engineers under Kościuszko's orders planned defenses which would use every advantage of the terrain.

Private Agrippa Hull served here in Colonel Samuel Brewer's (12th) Massachusetts Regiment. He later became Kościuszko’s waiter, and they built a lasting relationship. Hull became a popular, honored citizen of Stockbridge, Massachusetts.
Agrippa Hull by unknown artist, 1848.

Kościuszko fought much of his life to advance the ideal of liberty. He later wanted his properties in the United State to be used to buy, free, and educate enslaved people.
Tadeusz Kościuszko by Carl Gottlieb Schweikart, ca. 1802.
