1. Flags of Freedom Marker

Flags of Freedom. . In 2005 the Flags of Freedom were raised on Interstate 80, Exit 56 to honor our veterans, past, present and future. These flags symbolize the brave men and women who now serve and have served this great nation. These magnificent flags which are 30 feet by 60 feet, fly proudly 365 days a year and represent the patriotism of the City of Princeton and Bureau County. In 2003 a committee was formed of dedicated men and women who believed in those of the Armed Forces and to pay tribute to their service and sacrifices in defending our freedom. After many months of hard work, donations and fundraising this project came to fruition on September 10th, 2005. In 2006 the Flags of Freedom was recognized by the State of Illinois and was awarded the Governors Hometown Award. Currently to Keep the Flags Flying this is done by donations and sponsorships. The four flags, which measure 30-feet by 60-feet each, are placed on 153-foot flagpoles placed at each corner of Exit 56 on Interstate 80.
