1. New Deal History Marker
Inscription. President Franklin Roosevelt's "New Deal" was a sweeping Great Depression stimulus project. The Work Progress Administration (WPA) put millions to work constructing public buildings, sidewalks, roads, employing musicians, artists, writers, architects, and actors to preserve America's cultural legacies. The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) founded public land natural resources conservation and development. These amenities still define the character of national, regional and local parks and recreational sites. Explore the town's New Deal heritage, from our courthouse, schools and other buildings, to our WPA-stamped sidewalks and Post Office mural.
