Originally Building 131, "The Administration Building"

Designed by Boston architect Charles H. Alden, the Administration Building was a symbol of the Arsenal's rising prominence in manufacturing and research, as well as its commitment to safeguarding the nation's freedom.

Alden designed the building to resemble Philadelphia's Independence Hall, with its colonial revival style and a cupola with a four-sided clock. The building's Talcott Avenue location placed it near the Arsenal's manufacturing complex and research labs. As demand on the Arsenal increased during both world wars, Building 131 tripled in size through additions made in 1917-1918, and the addition of another wing in 1943.

2. 400 Talcott Marker

United States Army created the Watertown Arsenal in 1816 for the development, production, of ordnance including gun carriages and artillery pieces. In the years 1968 through 1995 the Army gradually reduced operations at the Arsenal and sold the site to the Watertown Development Authority for civilian use.
