Near Schuylerville in Saratoga County, New York — The American Northeast (Mid-Atlantic)
“the action became very hot”
Once General Arnold's massive reinforcement arrived, "the fire of the musketry became violent and incessant." American attackers focused on the two British flanks. The left flank collapsed. Americans seized two 6-pounder cannon "before a single shot had been fired from them." The British 24th Regiment of Foot and artillery from the right moved to help their wavering left flank. Then the weakened British right flank crumpled.
General Poor's Continental and militia troops struck the British Grenadier Battalion on the left flank. The tall grenadiers were the most experienced Redcoats. They "broke their ranks" and fell back. Their commander, Major John Dyke Acland, fell wounded and was captured.
