Near Schuylerville in Saratoga County, New York — The American Northeast (Mid-Atlantic)
The Final Assault
Here you can walk the place where the Second Battle of Saratoga ended in an American victory. Log walls and fortified cabins stood on this ground in October 1777. Two cannons and a few hundred soldiers were on hand for the defenses.
This was the right end of Lieutenant-General John Burgoynes battlelines. Once this fortified camp fell to the Americans, its defenders melted away into the twilit woods.
