Near Schuylerville in Saratoga County, New York — The American Northeast (Mid-Atlantic)
We are in strong position which the rebels dare not attack.

Appearances can be deceiving. A deep ravine protected this fortification to the north. But the rear where the soldiers camped was wide open. The two massive log walls had an 80-yard-wide gap between them. There was also a hill to the front that an enemy could use as cover.
The soldiers you would have seen near here faced challenges too. Colonel Breymann commanded the Reserve Corps - well-trained German troops. But on his right were inexperienced American royalists. On his left were French Canadians resentful of being here. His German officers did not trust them. Having to issue orders in German, French, and English made defending this place all the more difficult.
