1. Welcome to the Scugog Shores Museum Village Marker
Inscription.
In 1969 the Lake Scugog Historical Society was formed by a group of Scugog residents who were passionate about preserving their local heritage. Their first order of business was where to establish a local history museum. This parcel of land on Scugog Island was selected as the ideal spot. It is centrally located within the current township, and is rich in historic tradition being the site of Head Memorial Church and School, both built in the 1860's.

The Museum Village first opened to the public on Sunday, July 5, 1970 with Bill Brock serving as the founding President of the Museum Board. Four groups participated in the ribbon cutting ceremony: the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation, the Village of Port Perry, the Township of Reach and the Township of Scugog. Island residents Jack and Allene Kane were singled out for their outstanding contribution to the formation of the Museum.

The Village stands today as a reminder of the settlers who blazed their way through the bush to the shores of Lake Scugog, and to the volunteers who helped create this unique heritage site.
