Inscription.
The riflemen slowly reformed in the woods in front of you. Trees and deep ravines protected them from British infantry in the open held to the left, They poured devastating fire into the British 20th Regiment of Foot. Those Redcoats came into the woods to close in with the Americans. They failed to reach them.

General Burgoyne's soldiers had previously trained in "treeing" - fighting from behind trees. But few of the Redcoats here had combat experience — unlike the riflemen they faced.

British Army Infantry Musket
Muskets had a shorter effective range than rifles - about 100 yards. But they could be loaded more quickly than rifles and were easier to use. And muskets could mount bayonets - long steel blades used to stab an enemy.

Pennsylvania Rifle
A rifle had spiral grooves cut inside the barrel. This forced the bullet to come out spinning, stabilizing their flight through the air. Trained riflemen could shoot accurately at targets hundreds of yards away.
