More about this memorial. What makes this stolperstein unusual is that it is placed at his place of work. As a rule, stolpersteins are placed outside the place of a person’s last voluntary residence. In this instance, the adjacent stolpersteins for his family note they lived in Økern area of Oslo (about 1 km to the northeast). It may be that their former residence is no longer extant.

Excerpt (in translation): Oskar Rubinstein was a Norwegian-Jewish businessman. He was born in Saldus, Latvia and came to Norway in 1904. In 1911 he married Rosa Dsenselsky (b. 1889 in Poland). The couple settled in Bergen, where Oskar ran the Londoner-bazar hardware store. The couple's two eldest children were also born here; Molly Amalie in 1913,(Submitted on August 13, 2024.)and Albert in 1915. In 1918 the family moved to Oppegård in Follo. Four years later, the youngest child, Viktor, was born. The family now lived in Oslo where Oskar ran several different wholesale businesses. On 26 October 1942, Oskar and his son Viktor were arrested by Norwegian police officers and imprisoned in Bredtveit prison. Two days later they were transferred to Berg prison camp outside Tønsberg. From here they were deported on the transport ship Danube on 26 November 1942. The journey went to Stettin in Poland, and from there to the extermination camp Auschwitz. On arrival in the camp on 1 December 1942, Oskar Rubinstein was sent directly to the gas chamber and killed.
His son Viktor, who was hearing-impaired, was conscripted into slave labour. He perished in Auschwitz on 23 December 1942. Oskar's wife Rosa and daughter Molly Amalie were also deported with the Danube and gassed to death in Auschwitz on 1 December 1942.
