Inscription.

(English translation:)
From the 13th century until the Revolution, the Sainte-Croix church, one of the city's parishes, stood on this site. Its bell tower destroyed, it was sold as national property to citizen Déblesson, wool merchant and owner of the Café des Quatre Saisons, on the corner of Rue des Ursulines.

The building was then used as a store and its sacristy was transformed into a billiard room. From 1811 to 1828, the church served as a performance hall before being completely demolished to allow the widening of Grande Rue de Paris (now Rue Gabriel Péri). A theater was then built on its foundations, modeled on the Théatre des Variétés de Paris: inaugurated in 1829, it was the city's first theater. After the war of 1870, it made way for an apartment building.
