Once the French Canadians fled, the left of Colonel Breymann's camp was defenseless. General Arnold led a handful of riflemen through this gap, while nearly 1,000 Americans attacked along the front. Breymann was killed and Arnold was shot "through his Ankle, which broke the Bone." Outmaneuvered and outnumbered, the remaining defenders, women, and children fled for their lives.

General Burgoyne lost about 450 men killed or wounded on October 7. The Americans captured 180 more. General Gates lost about 150 Americans killed or wounded.
