Ring-Davis Building. After the Market Street fire of 1908 leveled the majority of the wooden buildings on the street, new brick storehouses were constructed at a rapid pace. The city council of Clinton passed an ordinance requiring all buildings in the “fire district” to be made of brick or stone. Wiley Ring, a prolific developer of both residential and business properties in Clinton at the turn of the century, had this structure complete in 1908 and sold it to Ardle Davis. A grocery store and barber shop were the earliest known businesses to operate here. The building was also one of the locations of the beloved Twins Café, operated for 37 years by sisters Hassie England Seivers and Lassie England Disney. The twins became celebrities, appearing on “The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson” and “Good Morning America”. At the age of 89, Hassie and Lassie closed the café in 1999 on the 100th birthday of the city of Clinton’s incorporation.
