Hoskins Drug Store #2. Hoskins Drug Store first opened on Market Street in 1930. Owner R. C. Hoskins opened a second location on Main Street in 1934 a few doors down from the current location. Starting in 1945, the former Peak and Seeber building, built in 1928 as a car dealership, was remodeled and rebuilt to become The Ritz Theater, Rose Jewelry, and the new Hoskins Drug Store. After wartime delays in materials, the store opened in 1947. A Rexall superstore, it contained a pharmacy, beauty shop, soda fountain, and bookstore. Mr. Hoskins raised the produce and meat for the kitchen on the family farm. The interior woodwork, including the original phone booths, was designed in conjunction with a Chicago company. During the integration of Clinton High School in 1956, the National Guard and radio stations set up in front of the drug store. Ready to help one more customer, Mr. Hoskins would step outside each night and look up and down the street before closing. He always answered the phone, Alright.
