1. Presidential Visits to Old North Marker
Inscription.
Old North was the University's main building from 1795 until the completion of the Healy building in 1879. During this period, it was not uncommon for the President of the United States to visit the University for commencement exercises, or for other public exhibitions. In addition, former President Gerald Ford participated in the rededication of Old North as the home of the School of Business Administration, and President-elect William J. Clinton addressed the Chiefs of the Diplomatic Missions from the steps of Old North, January 18, 1993. President Barack Obama gave his major policy address on climate change on June 25, 2013.
