1. A Revolutionary Hero, Much Revered Marker
Inscription.
April 18, 1775. Nightfall. Riding west to warn fellow patriots that British forces are on the march, Paul Revere crosses "The Neck" from Charlestown to what is now Sullivan Square. Ahead: two British soldiers, also mounted. Reading his horse, Revere veers onto today's Broadway. The Red Coats spot him. One pursues: Revere eludes him. The other tries an ambush but falls into a clay pit. Revere escapes and continues his historic ride to alert the "Minutemen" of Lexington. The smallest National Park in the country atop Winter Hill commemorates his daring.

Erected by City of Somerville.
