Inscription.
Early history
First built at western edge of Mingo Swamp circa 1885. Acquired by William & Rebecca May, who dismantled and reconstructed [it] on 43 acres of land deeded to William May as payment for services in the Civil War circa 1894.

Recent history
• Last owner of record – Earl & Ruth Carver
• Donated by Earl & Ruth Carver to Evelyn (May) Wilson, great granddaughter to William & Rebecca May
• She donated the house to the Wayne County Historical Society to be reconstructed at the city of Piedmont
• Dismantling began March 23, 1995, completed May 31, 1995
• Logs moved to Piedmont by Earl Carver June 2, 1995
• Reconstruction began by Wayne County Historical Society members and supporters June 3, 1995
• Reconstruction completed October 1995
