Inscription. This 1954 mural by Hollis Holbrook depicts the introduction of European culture and religion to the Native Americans, particularly those living here in the Village of Chief Seloy.

Holbrook (1909-1984) was a noted artist who graduated from the University of Massachusetts School of Design (1934), and from the Yale School of Fine Arts (1936).

During the depression, he was hired by the Federal Works Progress Administration (WPA) to paint murals on federal buildings, (many of which were post offices) and to teach his techniques to student artists.

Holbrook was the first chairman of the art department at the University of Florida, and a long term faculty member. He was an expert in tempera painting, and one of his most famous tempera murals is on display in the second story of the UF's main library.
