1. Des Moines Demons Marker
Inscription. The Demons were the league champions in both 1925 and 1926. In 1926 they just beat out the Oklahoma City Indians who claimed that other league teams "threw " their games with the Demons. League President Mike Sexton eventually cleared all parties. The Demons remained the champs.

Regarding Des Moines Demons. The Demons were members of the incarnation of the Western League that operated from 1900 to 1937; the Des Moines franchise existed from the start until the league disbanded in the midst of the Great Depression. The Demons played their home games at Holcomb Park, which was about 2½ miles north of here along the Des Moines River; today that site is used for North High School's football stadium.

Principal Park in Des Moines is home of the Iowa Cubs, AAA affiliate of the Chicago Cubs. The Demons' home games were at Holcomb Park, which stood about 2½ miles north of here and is today the home of the North High School football stadium.
