1. Towanda Borough Hall Marker
Inscription.

Groundbreaking for Towanda's Colonial Revival style borough hall was June 6, 1934. Modeled after historic Independence Hall in Philadelphia, the edifice has a hipped roof and center bell tower with an octagonal cupola. It was dedicated Jan. 1, 1935. The bell tower houses the historic bell from Bradford County's second courthouse, which was demolished in 1898. The bell was cast in 1849 in Rome, NY. Those in need of assistance pulled the bell rope to summon police. This building is a contributing structure to Towanda borough's historic district listed on the national register. It is the only example of Colonial Revival architecture in downtown Towanda.
