A Timeless Tribute
In observance of the 175th anniversary of the City of Mount Clemens, the citizens of this proud community dedicate this clock to all the individuals and families whose energies and sacrifices have made Mount Clemens one of our state's truly historic, progressive municipalities.
Our community was first settled in the late 18th century and platted in 1818 by our namesake, Christian Clemens. In that year, Mount Clemens also became the county seat of Macomb county a leadership - A leadership role it still commands, proudly.
Mount Clemens has long been a center of manufacturing, and at various points in its history has been home to manufacturers of farm implements, cooperage products and auto parts, designers and builders of world renowned boats, the world's largest dinnerware plant, and a longtime leader in the commercial rose growing industry. The Clinton River, a valuable natural resource running through the city, has also played an important role in the industrial history of the city, and today is a prime and beautiful focal point for our residents and visitors.
From 1873 to 1972, people from around the world came to Mount Clemens to bathe in its healing mineral waters. during this time, mount clemens had eleven major bath houses and numerous hotels, rooming houses and entertainment facilities. It was one of the major tourist destinations in the state of Michigan from 1880-1920.
This clock is dedicated to the historical efforts of its residents, and stands as a symbol for today's citizens, reminding them to continue the proud tradition of hard work to uphold the heritage of our forefathers.
