Inscription.
There are several stories about yarrow. During medieval times when witchcraft was rampant, yarrow gained a reputation for being able to drive away the devil. It became part of many complex Christian exorcism rituals used by the church to send demons away or force witches to confess.

Yarrow was also considered an herb to avert evil spells. In Ireland and France yarrow was one of the herbs that St. John burned, believing the smoke would give protection against evil. The Irish used to hang yarrow in their homes on St. John's eve to turn away illness, to disperse spirits, and to protect their homes. The Fen country people believed that if it was strewn on a doorstep no witch would dare enter the house.
