Inscription.
This house was built from 1880 until its completion in 1883. This was the residence of Nathan Goff, Jr., who served during the Civil War, was a United States District Judge, a United States Senator, and a Clarksburg developer. He was also Secretary of the Navy under President Rutherford B. Hayes. This home contained the "McKinley Bedroom," named for President William McKinley who would visit here on occasion. The house was made of simulated pressed brick in the Second Empire style and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. The house was demolished in 1993.
