Inscription.  German:

English Translation:
The building N 6, 4 a, a converted former sugar factory, housed the Higher Citizens' School from 1851 to 1901. This school, founded on October 19, 1840, sees itself primarily as an educational institution for the sons of Mannheim merchants and master craftsmen. In 1869, the Citizens' School was converted into a Grand Ducal High School and in 1901 the school was able to move into a new building on Friedrichsring. A new use was sought for the building N 6, 4a. In 1901/02, the engineering school, founded in Zweibrücke in 1895 by Paul Wittsack, moved in here and was already located in Mannheim in 1898. The engineering school trained the increasingly urgently needed technical specialists. The number of students enrolled rose from 175 to 356 between 1901 and 1912. The building in N 6, 4a was destroyed in a bombing raid in 1943.
