1. The Globe Warehouse Marker

Inscription. In 1885, tobacconist Julius Benjamin Warren constructed the Globe Warehouse at 500 West Main Street. The tobacco warehouse, used to store tobacco leaves before being sold for production, was conveniently constructed close to the railroad tracks and the Duke factory. The warehouse also served as a gathering space for events such as a military dress parade, a Marth Washington Tea Party, and many philanthropic fundraisers.
