Saville Lot
The Saville was among the most popular hotels of Petoskey during the turn of the century. Perched at the top of the Midway bazaar, it commanded a splendid view of Little Traverse Bay, proudly situated on the south-east corner of Petoskey and Bay Street. Originally built and operated by P.D. Banghart in 1885, it was first known as the Banghart.
In 1908, William B. Saville acquired the building and renamed it the New Saville. This historical hotel changed hands many times and was known by many different names, including Northern. New Northern. New Central and Chippewa. From 1910-1918, it was even operated as the Saville Sanatorium.
