Inscription.
LeRoy Tozier was a brilliant early day attorney in Fairbanks and a beloved well-known character of both the Klondike and Alaska.

Among his great many accomplishments, Tozier was elected as the first president of Igloo No. 4 of the Pioneers of Alaska in November of 1909.

During the years of Prohibition, men had to make their own libations to get around Alaska's "Bone Dry Law." Here is LeRoy Tozier's Prohibition era beer recipe compliments of Men's Igloo No. 4 of the Pioneers of Alaska:

REAL HONEST TO GOD BEER WITH A KICK
Bring five gallons of water to a boiling point, then add 3 oz. of hops with two handfuls of either cracked corn, rice, or wheat in a cloth sack and boil one hour.

Remove cloth sack containing hops and grain, add two pounds preferably brown sugar, and one quart malt syrup, whether light or dark, and boil for 15 minutes. Strain into earthenware jar and allow to remain until lukewarm. Dissolve one and one-half cakes Fleishman's Yeast in two teacups full lukewarm water and pour slowly.

Skim frequently.

Mixture should be ready to bottle in about three days, or when fermentation has stopped.

From 10 to 20 hours before this time, add 1 package Knox's Gelatin after dissolving in lukewarm water. Siphon through hose into bottles, cap immediately and let stand two weeks. - Amen.

"Will soon have simple and inexpensive recipe for making good old honest to God whiskey which I will forward."
Toz.
