Famous Fairbanks Advertising Campaign. , Have you ever wondered where the slogan "Golden Heart City" came from, or how long we have been using that catchy phrase?, It all began on July 20, 1911 when the Fairbanks Commercial Club was formed, which was the predecessor of today's Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce. The club worked hard to promote Fairbanks to outside investors and tourists. One of their first tasks was to select a memorable slogan to promote Fairbanks to the rest of the world. The Commercial Club recently decided on a slogan to be used in advertising the region around here, and out of nearly two hundred submitted, the winner was "Fairbanks, Alaska's Golden Heart, there's a soft spot in it for you"., To promote this catchy phrase, the Commercial Club ordered gold heart stickers from Massachusetts that arrived by horse drawn sleigh and dog teams over the Valdez Trail. In 1913, just two years later, it was reported that 125,000 stickers had been distributed and that it was "safe to say there is not a state in the union or a civilized country which has not been reached by some of them."
