Inscription.  German:
Die aus dem 18. Jahrhundert stammenden, unter Denkmalschutz stehenden, aneinander stoßenden Häuser D 4, 4 und D 4, 12 werden von 1854 bis 1973 als Mutterhaus der Niederbronner Schwestern mit Altenheim und Sozialstation genutzt. Dann gehen die Gebäude in den Besitz der Stadt über, die sie 1979/80 grundlegend sanieren lässt und sie der neu gegründeten Zweigstelle Mannheim des Goethe-Instituts als Studentenwohnheim zur Verfügung stellt. Am 28. April 1980 nimmt dieses im Gebäude der Bank für Gemeinwirtschaft, Ifflandstraße 2-6, die Arbeit auf. 1989 bezieht das Goethe-Institut das ehemalige Verwaltungsgebäude der Berufsgenossenschaft Nahrungsmittel und Gaststätten in der Steubenstraße 44. Jährlich kommen rund 1 500 Lernwillige aus 90 Ländern nach Mannheim, um am Goethe-Institut ihre Deutschkenntnisse zu verbessern. Das Anwesen D 4, 4 und D 4, 12 wird seit 2004 vom Förderband e.V., einer Einrichtung der Jugendberufshilfe im Bund der deutschen katholischen Jugend, genutzt. © Stadtarchiv Mannheim Institut Für Stadtgeschichte

(Foto Nr. 1) Der bis heute erhaltene Laubengang im Hof des Grundstückes, 1944. Das Gebäude wird zwischen 1720 und 1735 für Bedienstete des kurfurstlichen Schlosses errichtet.
(Foto Nr. 2) Das Gebdude D4, 4 vor der Sanierung, 1973/74. Zu dieser Zeit wird es als Türkisches Begegnungszentrum genutzt. Das benachbarte Quadrat D3 ist unbebaut und dient als Parkplatz.

The adjoining houses D 4, 4 and D 4, 12, which date from the 18th century and are listed as historical monuments, were used from 1854 to 1973 as the mother house of the Niederbronner Sisters, with a retirement home and social center. The buildings then became the property of the city, which had them thoroughly renovated in 1979/80 and made them available to the newly founded Mannheim branch of the Goethe Institute as a student residence. On April 28, 1980, the branch began operations in the building of the Bank for Public Economy, Ifflandstrasse 2-6. In 1989, the Goethe Institute moved into the former administration building of the Food and Catering Trade Association at Steubenstrasse 44. (Photo #1) The arcade in the courtyard of the property, which has been preserved to this day, 1944. The building was built between 1720 and 1735 for servants of the electoral palace.
