1. Logging and Saw Mills Marker

Inscription. Logging and lumber are a big part of Fife Lake’s history. The vast forests of massive virgin timber were logged by hardworking men and their teams of horses (as shown in the two smaller photographs). The sawmills were built on the edge of the lake so that logs could be floated to the mills for processing. Shown above are Hagadorn’s Mill (upper left) and Codd’s Mill (lower right). Their close proximity to the railroad made the sale and shipping of lumber convenient (notice the neatly stacked piles of limber waiting to be loaded onto rail cars).
