A Gift From Mexico
The tulip tree in front of you is a gift from Mexico to the United States. It was given to recognize 200 years of bilateral relations between the two countries. The relationship was strengthened during World War II with the participation of Mexican Air Force Squadron 201 which fought side by side with American troops in the Pacific theater of war.
After Mexico declared war on the Axis powers, Mexican personnel trained with US Army Air Forces. By July 1945, Mexican Air Force Squadron 201 was based on the Philippine island of Luzon. It provided close ground support to advancing US troops and attacked Japanese targets on Taiwan. Escuadrón 201 is the only Mexican military unit to fight outside of the country.

La relación se fortaleció durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial con la participación del Escaudrón 201 de la Fuerza Aérea Mexicana que al lado de las tropas estadounidenses en el Pacífico.
Después de que México declaró la guerra a las potencias del Eje, el personal mexicano entrenó con las fuerzas del ejército estadounidense. En julio de 1945, el Escradrón 201 de la Fuerza Aérea Mexicana estableció su base en Luzón, Filipinas. Proporcionó apoyo terrestre a las tropas estadounidenses del área y atacó objetivos japoneses en Taiwán. El Escuadrón 201 es la única unidad militar mexicana que ha combatido fuera del país.
