Inscription.  German:

English:
As part of the city's development at the beginning of the 20th century, the Schmoller and Wronker department stores opened in P 1 and E 1 in 1904/05. The extensive range of products was offered in bright, clearly laid out rooms and aimed at a broad range of buyers. Huge display windows allowed a view of the interior and were used for targeted sales advertising. The modern business idea proved successful: by the end of the 1920s, extensive extensions were necessary, which took up ever larger parts of the squares. The National Socialists propagated the boycott of "Jewish" department stores from the very beginning. By 1938, the stores were "Aryanized", i.e. the previous owners were forced to sell below value. After the complete destruction in World War II, new department stores were built in E 1 and P 1, each of which covered the entire square.
