In 1955, the State Business School moved into the east wing of Mannheim Palace. It dates back to the Mannheim Municipal Business School, founded in 1907. In 1933, the institution was closed down by the National Socialists. In 1946, the Business School was re-established as a State Business School. In the 1950s and 1960s, in addition to the economic and social sciences focus, law and humanities faculties were established. In 1967, the Mannheim Business School was granted university status. In the years that followed, the University of Mannheim experienced rapid growth. While 3,150 students were enrolled in 1967, the 10,000 student mark was exceeded in the mid-1990s. The premises in the castle alone were no longer sufficient for this. The University of Mannheim is now recognized as one of the best German universities.

(Photo #1) In its long-standing seal and motto in omnibus veritas, the university follows the tradition of the Palatinate Academy of Sciences. It was introduced on the occasion of the move of the business school to the castle in 1955.
(Photo #2) The university's additional space requirements are met with the help of new allocations or blocks in the A and L squares. For example, in 1972 a new building for the social sciences faculty was built in A 5, which was rebuilt again in 1998-2000.
