1. Merigold’s Point Marker
Inscription. The name Merigold's Point was the unofficial name for this early settlement. The area was named for Thomas Merigold, Lewis Bradley's father-in-law. The families who settled here were Merigold, Jarvis, Bradley, Thompson, and Marlatt. Lewis' petition for land at Merigold's Point was approved in August of 1810. The property Lewis received was Lot 28, Concession III SDS (south of Dundas Street). The Bradley lot was 200 acres (81 ha). This was the standard lot size issued to all Loyalists and sons of Loyalists in Upper Canada. His first log cabin was completed in January, 1811. Lewis, Elizabeth and their new-born daughter, Mary, were the third family to lay down roots at Merigold's Point.
