Inscription.  German:
1549-55 auf älteren Grundmauern unter Kurfürst Friedrichs II. (1544-56) erbaut. Im obersten Geschoss ein mit kostbaren Spiegeln ausgestatteter Festsaal ist nicht mehr erhalten. Frühestes Renaissancegebäude im Schloss. Nach Zerstörung im 30-jährigen Krieg unter Kurfürst Karl Ludwig (1649-80) innen umgebaut; 1764 nach Blitzeinschlägen niedergebrannt. 2013 neu eingezogenes Dach und Ausbau. Künstlerische Ausgestaltung Prof. Jürgen Goertz 2020.

English:
Built 1549-55 on older foundation walls under Elector Friedrich II (1544-56). A banqueting hall furnished with precious mirrors in the top floor is no longer preserved. The earliest Renaissance building in the castle. Interior rebuilt after destruction during the 30-Year War under Elector Karl Ludwig (1649–80); burnt down in 1764 after lightning strikes. 2013 new roof and development.

2. Gläserner Saalbau / Glass Hall Building Marker
destroyed by the French in the War of the Grand Alliance. These catastrophic events are commemorated in a spectacular fireworks display, held several times each year. In 1764, after some makeshift repairs, the battered castle was heavily damaged again: this time by the forces of Nature, in the form of two devastating lightning strikes. The once-proud residence caught fire – and was left in ruins.
