Inscription.  German:
1738 unter Kurfürst Karl Philipp (1716-42) neu gefasste und überbaute Quelle. Während vieler Jahre wurde das Trinkwasser von hier aus täglich mit Fuhrwerken an den Hof nach Mannheim gebracht.

English:
Newly set and covered spring under Elector Karl Philipp (1716-42). For many years, drinking water was brought daily from here to the court in Mannheim with horsedrawn vehicles.

the battered castle was heavily damaged again: this time by the forces of Nature, in the form of two devastating lightning strikes. The once-proud residence caught fire – and was left in ruins.
