Inscription.  German:

English Translation:
Motif of Romanticism
Hardly any other motif impressed poets and painters of the Romantic era as much as the "Blown Up Tower": During the Orléans War, French troops attempted to destroy the tower in which the gunpowder was stored. In the process, a section of the wall slid down into the moat, where it still lies today. This image inspired artists to philosophical reflections and painterly views. One of the first was Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, who captured this view in a drawing in 1779.

2. The Testimony of History Marker and the Blown Up Tower
the late 17th century, the castle was repeatedly attacked and ultimately destroyed by the French in the War of the Grand Alliance. These catastrophic events are commemorated in a spectacular fireworks display, held several times each year. In 1764, after some makeshift repairs, the battered castle was heavily damaged again: this time by the forces of Nature, in the form of two devastating lightning strikes. The once-proud residence caught fire – and was left in ruins.
