… He therefore joined the Resistance on August 13, 1944, with the FFI of the 5th arrondissement and he was approved for the Libé-Nord movement from August 15 to 22, 1944…. He fought on the barricade at the crossroads of Boulevard Saint-Michel and Boulevard Saint-Germain. On August 18, Lieutenant Sarran, head of the 5th sector for the FFI, requisitioned the high school to set up an ammunition depot there. The construction of numerous barricades on August 22 provoked the anger of the Germans. Guy Basseau was on a barricade on Boulevard Saint-Germain at the height of Rue de Bièvre. The Senate was a fortress occupied by the enemy with tanks against which the order was given to fight with the weapons available to the resistance, grenades and incendiary bottles.(Submitted on October 6, 2024.)
Guy Basseau fell at the corner of rue de Bièvre (n° 33) and boulevard Saint-Germain. According to the death certificate drawn up on 23 August 1944 on the declaration of his father, aged 62, he died at his home on 22 August at nine o'clock….
He was cited in the order of the army corps by decision of General Koenig, head of the FFI general staff, dated 29 January 1945.
He was awarded the mention "Mort pour la France" by decision of the Minister of Veterans Affairs dated 24 April 1947 and was approved as a soldier of the French Forces of the Interior (FFI).
He was posthumously awarded the Croix de Guerre and the Médaille de la Résistance (decree of 29 November 1946 and published in the Official Journal on 8 December 1946).
