Inscription. This bake oven was built in the 1990s as a demonstration site. The red clay tiles for the roof were donated by potter, Ned Foltz. In the 19th century, the outdoor bake oven would have been built much closer to the farmhouse kitchen for the convenience of the housewife. It is known as a Squirrel Tail Oven because it has an interesting flue which curves back over the top of the oven dome.
