SWARTSWOOD — Approximately 26 years ago, to mark the 75th Anniversary of Girl Scouting, a time capsule was buried in Stillwater Park, by Brownie Troop 717 along with instructions to unearth it in honor of the 100th Year of Girl Scouting.

Hurricane Sandy didn't cooperate, so on Sunday, April 21 the Kittatinny Service Unit honored the 101st Year of Girl Scouting by holding an event to uncover the time capsule.

Two of the original scouts from that particular Troop 717 attended.

The Kittitanny Service Unit had a letter from the

1987 describing the location of the burial site.

After several hours of digging in various locations and recalculating the original coordinates, the Girl Scouts and the volunteers were unsuccessful at uncovering the time capsule.

Over the years, many changes have been made to the park and to the local area surroundings.

The girls prepared three time capsules to mark the 101st Year of Girl Scouting and placed them into the ground.
