1. Union Station Marker

Inscription. Union Station was a passenger station shared by the Jersey Central and the Delaware Lackawanna & Western railroads when it was built in 1912-1914. Architect Frank Nies worked for the Delaware Lackawanna and designed several other stations in New Jersey. The flared roof line and widely overhanging eaves are characteristic of an architectural style that came to be called “Prairie”; a style usually associated with Frank Lloyd Wright. There are two floors below the street level; the lower one opened to the platform where passengers loaded and unloaded. The building served as a bank, pharmacy and cleaners before being acquired by the Transportation Heritage Society.
