1. Linwood Cottage Marker

Inscription.
Every town has that special house that captures the imagination. Linwood Cottage, built in 1855 for local jeweler and clockmaker James Emery, is a melding of architectural styles, including Gothic, Greek Revival, and Italianate, Emery's eclectic taste generated a buzz back in the day, and the home seems a fitting reflection of a man whose varied interests included "jewelry, books, and fancy goods." which were sold at his downtown shop.

He was a talented artist influenced by his friendship with Fitz Henry Lane, the noted marine painter. In addition to this 1859 lithograph of Bucksport, Emery's topographic views included a lithograph of High Street, Belfast, a drawing of Main Street, Bucksport, and a lithograph of the East Maine Conference Seminary, Bucksport. Emery is also remembered as an architect who designed such Bucksport landmarks as his home, Linwood Cottage, the Torrent Engine Company Fire House, the First Unitarian Church, and Emery Hall.

On a visit to Bucksport in 1867, John Martin of Bangor made this sketch of Emery's home. "When I had a full view of this building I gave in once that it was the handsomest building
