Inscription.
Churches have been the centers of community life in New England for hundreds of years.

The Congregational Church was established in 1803, and erected its first meeting house in 1813. The current Greek Revival style building was dedicated in 1838. Designed by Bangor architect Benjamin S. Deane, it is included on the National Register of Historic Places. The parish house was added in 1876.

A block to the east, the Franklin Street Methodist Church was built in 1839. Methodist churches in North Bucksport and East Bucksport were also established in the 1800s. These congregations were often served by students from East Maine Conference Seminary. The Franklin Street church was sold to private owners in 2019, and the congregation moved to a building near the former paper mill.

Three blocks to the west at Franklin and 1st St., Bucksport's first Catholic church held its first service at Christmas 1890, and was dedicated as St. Vincent de Paul in 1891. Before this, Catholics in Bucksport met in family homes or nearby communities. This building is now a school, and the current parish is located at the comer of Central and Franklin.
