Inscription.
Commodore Frederick G. Bourne - self-made millionaire, entrepreneur, yachtsman and the president of the Singer Sewing Machine Company from 1889-1905, built "The Towers" as his hunting lodge and spent time here with his family both in summer and fall months, enjoying the many pleasures of the river.

Upon his death in 1919, Bourne's daughters Marjorie and May assumed ownership of the Castle. Marjorie along with her husband Alexander Thayer used the island until the late 1950s, then donated it to the LaSalle Christian Brothers in 1961.
