Inscription.  German:

English Translation:
Nicolas de Pigage was born on August 2, 1723 in Lunéville, Lorraine, Schwetzingen's French twin town. He received his training as an architect at the Académie Royale d'Architecture in Paris. Pigage's work at the Electorate of the Palatinate court began in 1749 with his appointment as "Intendant of the Gardens and Water Features". Due to his great services to the redesign of the Mannheim and Schwetzingen residences, he was appointed Chief Building Director of the Electorate of the Palatinate in 1752, later as Court Chamberlain and Garden Director. He was given a special honour when he was raised to the hereditary nobility.

While he completed the residential palace in Mannheim and created a new summer palace in Benrath near Düsseldorf, he was responsible for numerous buildings in Schwetzingen. The famous palace theater, the southern Zirkelhaus and, as part of his planned expansion of the garden, the orangery,

the bathhouse complex, the temple buildings and the garden mosque, which is unique in garden design, were built. He achieved technical masterpieces with the upper and lower waterworks for the water features in the palace garden. The Catholic church of St. Pankratius also bears his signature with its classicist west façade.

Nicolas de Pigage died on July 30, 1796 in his apartment in the Schwetzingen Ambassador's House, today's district court.
